Conquering Marginalization

~ Written by Agnes Nakutan

This year 2022, we are working towards opening doors for 50 girls to go and stay at school! By doing this, we will pass the torch of kindness to the next generation of girls to influence the future women leaders to care more about their community and take care of themselves to thrive and live a fulfilling life.

My Story

I am Agnes Nakutan, I was born and raised a Christian in a very humble life in Lodwar town in Turkana County in Kenya, Africa.  While growing up, I never had role models and mentors except my mom. I went to school through sponsorship of catholic mission in Lodwar town that saw me through my primary to secondary school. My first college course was sponsored in full by (a good Samaritan) a UNICEF staff from Pakistan called Mr. Sikhander Khan. Let me digress a bit. While in primary school, I never had access to the most basic needs even as teenager. This included inner clothes and sanitary materials. I never wore shoes for the longest time of my life, till I got blessed with an abandoned pair of plastic sleepers on the road to our house while I was in 7th grade.

As a child between 8-10 years, I always wanted to be a model or air hostess! I admired all neat and well-dressed people and sometimes childish comments like “that’s me”, would come out of my mouth! During my play time, I could cat walk with flattened empty water bottles with small stones tied on the bottom side to make high heel shoes, it was fulfilling. And when I started understanding myself as a teenager, I preferred unique style of clothes. My cousins always identified some clothes as mine whenever they found them at the shops! I had a desire to succeed in life, to dress well and live a good life! That’s why now in my little capacity and ability, I ventured into some great avenues to inspire and motivate others especially young girls.

I write to inspire, I model to inspire and now creating this initiative to help and inspire. It’s all for a purpose to put a smile on mainly the face of young girls, that are reliving the poverty-filled life that I grew in. Lacking literally everything including sanitary pads! I wish and pray that God will make away in your hearts to support this initiative to help me make it a reality to assist, inspire, motivate and light up these girls’ humble states! I have published a book called “Conquering Marginalization” that will also be used as a fundraiser towards this initiative to raise funds for school fees, school requirements and sanitary items for most of the poor girls in Turkana county. Through your support, this year 2022, we hope to take 50 girls to school and help them stay in school.
